A REBEL'S CASE:

LUCY CHANG

Atmosphere, taste and style take shape digitally. Find out how Rebel Agency transforms an iconic restaurant brand into a recognisable and consistent brand experience on every channel. Curious about our approach? Find out here!

The challenge

Lucy Chang was the first to fast-casual dining concept to Belgium. What began as an innovative dining experience with influences from 1920s Shanghai has grown to become a fixture in Antwerp, Brasschaat, Knokke and Ghent. The restaurant combines atmosphere, flavour, speed and recognisability in a concept that is both accessible and distinctive.

Still, the digital translation behind that success. Despite the visual appeal of the interior and the rich culinary narrative, Lucy Chang’s online presence remained fragmented. Different channels, different locations and previous collaborations with multiple parties meant there was a lack of cohesion.

The collaboration with Rebel Agency began as a result of the need for more structure, consistency and strategic coherence in communications. The challenge lay not in a single post, a single campaign or a single new image, but in strengthening the entire ecosystem: branding, website, bookings, takeaway, delivery, social media, Google Business profile, reviews, adverts, content, influencers, employer branding, offline marketing, SEO, GEO and AI discoverability.

We support Lucy Chang as a long-term marketing partner. Rather than creating one-off campaigns, we are developing an approach that evolves alongside the restaurant, its various locations, consumer behaviour and the way people search for, book, order and decide where to eat.

LUCY CHANG

Our approach

What began as a partnership focusing on content and digital communication developed into a strategic partnership with Rebel Agency helping to manage, monitor and optimise Lucy Chang’s entire online and offline marketing strategy.

The foundations were laid with a clear brand strategy, visual structure and a recognisable communication strategy. This foundation ensures that all locations, campaigns and channels are moving in the same direction. Everything above that is constantly evolving: the website is further optimised, reviews are actively monitored, content is continuously created, campaigns are fine-tuned and data is used to communicate more effectively.

Our approach is based on three main principles:

Start by establishing a structure

We ensure a clear visual and content structure, so that Lucy Chang communicates in a recognisable and consistent manner across all locations and channels.

Then test each channel

The website, Google Business Profile, social media, campaigns, email newsletters and offline marketing are continuously monitored and adjusted to optimise visibility, bookings, takeaways, deliveries and direct orders.

Measure everything and keep optimising

Tracking, data, SEO, GEO, reviews and conversions are used to make communication smarter, more targeted and more commercially focused.

Not separate campaigns for each channel, but a integrated approach with every touchpoint working towards the same goal: greater visibility, greater trust, more bookings, more takeaways and more direct orders via our own channels.

Positioning and visual identity

The first step was to review the brand strategy. What makes Lucy Chang unique? How do we ensure that the atmosphere, the culinary narrative and the experience can also be felt digitally?

Lucy Chang has a strong and distinctive concept. This unique character must be evident not only in the restaurant, but also online and offline. That is why we introduced more structure to her visual and content-based communication.

We took Lucy Chang’s existing aesthetic as our starting point and adapted it into a digital style that is more suitable for website, social media, advertisements, newsletters, Google Business Profile, campaign content and offline media. This includes standard formats, a recognisable visual style, a clear tone of voice, consistent visual elements and communication that is better tailored to the various locations.

That foundation has been laid, but it remains the basis for everything that follows. Every new campaign, post, advert, mailing, website update or offline application follows the same approach. This is how communication more recognisable, more consistent and commercially stronger.

Website

a. Conversion-focused structure

The new website was developed as a commercial channel with a focus on atmosphere, user-friendliness, local discoverability and conversion. Visitors should be able to quickly find their location, book a table, view the menu, order takeaway or choose delivery via the relevant pages.

The website must not only look good, but above all, it must work. That is why we continue to monitor and optimise the website in line with bookings, takeaways, orders, local search visibility and new commercial priorities. Pages, calls to action, location information, promotions and content are regularly updated.

b. Our own sales channels

A key focus is on own drivers and collection. By directing customers more effectively to its own website and ordering process, Lucy Chang becomes less reliant on external platforms and its profit margin remains better protected.

This makes the website an important commercial tool. Not only does it convey the atmosphere and provide information, but it also encourages more direct orders, bookings and collection times.

c. SEO, GEO and tracking

For a restaurant with multiple locations, local visibility is crucial. People don’t just search for “Lucy Chang”, but also for specific needs such as ‘Asian restaurant in Antwerp’, ‘lunch in Knokke’, ‘takeaway in Brasschaat’, ‘restaurant in Ghent’, ‘Asian takeaway’ or ‘delivery nearby’.

That is why we are constantly working on local SEO and GEO. Each location must be easy to find, with accurate information, relevant keywords, clear content, FAQs, local signals and links to the appropriate actions, such as making a booking, collecting or ordering.

In addition, we are continuing to build on AI discoverability on platforms such as ChatGPT, Google Gemini, Siri and other smart assistants. We ensure that Lucy Chang sends out the right signals through optimised content, accurate NAP details, location pages, review data, Google updates and AI-friendly content structures.

Using Google Tag Manager, GA4, Meta Pixel and relevant conversion events, we ensure that campaigns can be measured. We use this data to further optimise adverts, content, landing pages and calls to action. As GEO and AI discoverability are constantly evolving, this remains a key part of our collaboration.

Google Business Profile channels

a. Local visibility by location

For Lucy Chang, Google Business Profile is one of the most important local channels. For restaurants, this is often one of the first points of contact: people look at photos, opening hours, menus, booking links, reviews and directions before they even visit the website.

That is why we actively optimise and manage the profiles for each location. We ensure that the information is accurate, the photos are up to date, updates are relevant, click-through rates are good, links are clear and communication is consistent.

b. Review strategy

Reviews are not left to chance, but are actively encouraged at various stages of the customer journey. Examples include prompts on the receipt, physical review tickets in the restaurant, follow-up via email following a booking and an internal scheme whereby staff are rewarded when they actively contribute to more and better reviews.

This review strategy ensures that satisfied customers share their experiences more quickly and that reviews become an integral part of Lucy Chang’s local visibility.

c. Reputation management

The follow-up process does not end once the reviews have been collected. We respond to reviews, take negative feedback seriously and report false or unjustified reviews where necessary.

Reputation management thus becomes an integral part of the marketing strategy. The result is clear: the average review score rose across all locations of 3.6 to 4.1 or even 4.2. This isn’t just good for your brand image, but also for local SEO, conversion rates and building trust with new customers.

Social media

a. Strategy and content planning

Lucy Chang has everything it takes to make a strong impact on social media: atmosphere, dishes, interior design, venues, the overall experience and a recognisable concept. The challenge is not to present this wealth of content in a fragmented way, but to translate it into a clear and consistent communication strategy.

Every post is designed with a specific aim in mind: to inspire, engage, inform or drive conversions. We work with a content plan that brings together dishes, lunch, takeaway, delivery, events, public holidays, promotions, venues and employer branding.

This is how we ensure a clear line of communication throughout the year. No random, aimless posts, but a content strategy that responds to the seasons, mealtimes, consumer behaviour and commercial priorities.

b. Content creation and photo shoots

Effective restaurant marketing stands or falls on its visuals. That is why we organise a number of major on-location content shoots, always with a focus on atmosphere, food, people and the overall experience.

For Lucy Chang, we worked with more than 40 models on location. This approach results in content that goes far beyond traditional food photography. We don’t just show dishes; we also capture the atmosphere of a lunch, a dinner, a takeaway, a night out or a cosy meal with friends.

These images are used strategically on the website, in banners, adverts, social media, Google Business Profile, newsletters, offline adverts and campaigns. At the same time, throughout the partnership, we continue to create new content and respond to new dishes, promotions, locations and commercial opportunities.

c. Influencer marketing

As well as our own content, we also focus on expanding our reach through relevant partnerships. We have collaborated with, amongst others, Les Jumelles and BBODY, always featuring creators and communities that are in keeping with Lucy Chang’s ethos and target audience.

These partnerships are not just one-off “posts”, but are used to increase reach, credibility and interest. Influencer content helps to reach new target audiences, draw extra attention to dishes or venues, and boost online visibility.

d. Community building

Social media is not just a source of inspiration. Comments are followed up on, questions are answered and user-generated content is picked up where relevant. This ensures that the actively involved in the community at the restaurant chain.

This follow-up ensures that Lucy Chang remains closer to the customer, can respond more quickly to queries or feedback, and that the online experience better aligns with the in-restaurant experience.

e. Employer branding

Also in the area of recruitment we take an active role. In a competitive hospitality market, attracting and retaining talent is a major challenge. That is why we utilise employer branding via social media, specifically LinkedIn, but also in a more accessible way through job posts on Instagram and Facebook. We create visual campaigns that we target at the right audience, where the internal culture really stands out.

We position Lucy Chang not just as a restaurant, but also as an employer. Eye-catching visuals, honest testimonials and job adverts with personality ensure that Lucy Chang stands out in a tight labour market and attracts candidates who are a better fit for the business.

Performance marketing

As well as organic content, we run targeted campaigns via Meta and Google. In doing so, we focus not only on reach, but above all on actions that are commercially relevant are: book, collection, order, lunch visits, special offers, repeat visits and limited-time promotions.

The campaigns are tailored to the right time, the right location and the right target audience. Among other things, we focus on foodies, locals and hospitality-oriented target groups within the regions surrounding the various branches. Depending on the objective, we develop campaigns focusing on lunch, takeaway, delivery, public holidays, new dishes, local offers, Social Deal, events or specific promotions.

Thanks to targeted segmentation, creative visuals and accurate tracking we can continuously evaluate and adjust our campaigns. We can see which content works, which target group is responding, which location needs extra support, and which message is the greatest effect has.

In this way, performance marketing becomes not a separate advertising budget, but an integral part of the commercial growth by Lucy Chang. Every campaign has a clear purpose: greater visibility, more traffic to the company’s website, more bookings, more takeaways or more direct orders.

Email marketing

Lucy Chang had an interesting database at her disposal, but it was not yet being utilised systematically enough. That is why we are focusing on a email marketing strategy which re-engages customers and strengthens the bond with each individual branch.

We develop templates, segmentation and campaigns covering new dishes, seasonal suggestions, events, special offers, lunch, takeaway and special occasions. The style remains unmistakably Lucy Chang: visually striking, clear and action-oriented.

Email marketing therefore supports not only communication, but also customer retention. Customers who are already familiar with Lucy Chang are re-engaged with relevant messages and direct links to book, collect or order. We also make clever use of email marketing as part of our review strategy, for example by sending targeted invitations to customers after a booking, asking them to share their experience.

Offline marketing

Lucy Chang’s communication doesn’t stop online. Offline, too, we ensure that the style, message and campaigns remain recognisable.

Among other things, we are working on posters, flyers, print adverts and local publications. Examples include adverts in KH Magazine, Freemap and Zoute Papers. These channels boost visibility amongst local target audiences, visitors, tourists and people looking for restaurants in the area.

Offline marketing is not viewed in isolation from the digital strategy. Campaigns, promotions and visuals are rolled out across multiple channels, so that people come across Lucy Chang at different times and in different places: online, on social media, through adverts, on Google, on the website and offline.

AI and automation

As well as marketing, we also contribute ideas on broader digital optimisations within Lucy Chang’s operations. This isn’t just about visibility in AI search environments, but also about how smart systems can support internal operations.

We contribute ideas on AI systems to make kitchen operations easier, as well as automations and tools that can make Lucy Chang more efficient in her own right. Examples include platforms such as Feedility, Leat, Grozer, which can add value within the wider digital ecosystem. How can data, customer feedback, bookings, orders and communication be better aligned? That is what we are looking into and constantly striving to optimise.

This approach is in line with our role as a 360° partner. We don’t just look at the next post or campaign, but also to the digital developments which will make Lucy Chang stronger in the long term, more efficient and forward-looking will make.

Data and optimisation

As the collaboration is ongoing, we don’t limit ourselves to just one strategy. Dining habits are changing rapidly: customers search for restaurants differently, order differently, make bookings differently and are influenced online by reviews, photos, adverts and recommendations.

That is why we are constantly analysing what works. We analyse website behaviour, conversions, campaigns, social media, Google Business Profile, reviews and content performance.

Which location attracts a lot of traffic but sees little action? Which campaign generates bookings? Which content makes people curious enough to click? Which search queries generate visibility? Which review themes keep cropping up?

Because of that to take these insights on board, we continue to refine Lucy Chang’s marketing strategy. In this way, we are not only building visibility, but also improving conversion rates, generating more direct orders and a stronger digital presence.
